Road Weather Information Systems

Brun-Way will operate five Road Weather Information System (RWIS) locations. These RWIS monitoring stations provide web-based winter weather and road condition forecasting services, including wind direction, air temperature, asphalt temperature and the temperature of the sub-base soil located under the road. This information will allow Brun-Way to be proactive during winter operations rather than reacting when a storm hits the region.

It will further enable Brun-Way to manage salt in a more effective way to protect the environment.

When given the appropriate forecast condition, Anti-Icing is performed by Brun-Way before snow falls on the highway. Anti-Icing is applied in a liquid form (salt brine) to prevent snow from bonding to the road surface thus returning the highway to bare pavement conditions more quickly, saving lives and reducing property damages due to fewer accidents.
